Summer tires
A good summer tire has to perform on both dry and wet roads, deliver confident handling and hold on to its qualities at higher speeds too. Summer in Estonia often means fast-changing conditions – dry asphalt can turn into heavy rain and wet roads within minutes.
At FS.ee you’ll find summer tires in a wide range of sizes and price classes. To find the right tires, enter your car’s registration number or choose the tire size you need.
How to choose summer tires?
When choosing a summer tire, don’t go by brand or price alone. What matters is your car, your mileage and the conditions you usually drive in.
For relaxed city driving and lower mileage, a good budget summer tire can be a perfectly sensible choice. If you cover a lot of kilometres, spend plenty of time on the highway or drive a more powerful car, it pays to look more closely at handling, wet grip, wear resistance and stability at higher speeds.
We select the summer tires marked “FS Recommends” on FS.ee based on our own experience. The aim isn’t to recommend only the most expensive tires, but to highlight models in every price class that we believe offer good value for money.
Wet grip matters in an Estonian summer
One of the most important qualities of a summer tire is how it behaves on a wet road. In heavy rain, the tread pattern must be able to channel water out from between the tire and the road surface quickly and keep the best possible contact with the road.
When comparing tires, it’s therefore worth checking the wet grip class on the EU tire label. The label is a good starting point for comparing different tires, but it doesn’t describe every characteristic – such as handling, aquaplaning resistance, wear or how the tire behaves at different temperatures.
Budget or premium summer tires?
The most expensive summer tire isn’t automatically the best choice for every car and every driver. Nor does a lower price necessarily mean a bad tire.
A lot of investment goes into developing premium tires, and their strengths often show best in more demanding conditions – braking on a wet road, at higher speeds, in precise handling or in the balance between different characteristics.
That said, there are also very good summer tires in the mid-range and budget price classes. The right choice depends on what car you drive, how much you drive and in what conditions.
When to fit summer tires?
When switching to summer tires, go by the actual weather conditions rather than just the calendar. Once the risk of hard night frosts and snow has passed and temperatures stay springlike and mild, it’s time to swap your winter tires for summer ones.
A Nordic studless winter tire with a soft rubber compound isn’t designed for summer use on warm asphalt. At higher temperatures its handling becomes less precise and the tire wears faster. A tire built for summer is the right choice for warm weather, wet roads and summer driving conditions.
Find the right summer tires for your car
The easiest way to find the right tires is to enter your car’s registration number. The tire search will show the tire sizes that fit your car, from which you can pick the size currently fitted or the one you want. If you already know the tire size you need, you can also search for summer tires directly by size.
The FS.ee range includes summer tires in every price class – from budget options to premium tires. Compare prices and features, and choose the option that suits your car, your mileage and your driving habits.
